Gordon Topham, Commission Chair

Gordon Topham has lived in Sevier County since 1985 when he moved here to develop Fremont Indian State Park, he currently lives on Monroe where he and his wife JoAnn raised their family. They are parents of two sons and three daughters all now have families of their own. Gordon received a B.S. degree in Composite Biological Science with a Secondary Teaching Certificate from Southern Utah University. Prior to being elected County Commissioner, Gordon served as a member of the Monroe City Council. Gordon’s professional career was with the State & National Park Service where he worked throughout rural Utah, retiring in 2005 from the position of Deputy Director of Operations, Planning and Development for Utah Division of Parks and Recreation. Gordon has an interest in public lands, public lands policy and has served in several advisory councils to state and federal agencies dealing with public lands, tourism and recreation.

Gordon has always been actively involved in civic and religious affairs, having served in many leadership capacities. Some of Gordon’s key priorities include: 

  • Economic Development specially where it relates to tourism and recreation.
  • Keeping our Public Lands open to natural resource use for mineral development, grazing, tourism and recreation.
  • Open communications and coordination between all levels of government.
